Giselle Henderson
NMS-4
Giselle is currently a 4th-year Naturopathic medical student at Bastyr University. Growing up in rural Maine set the stage for a lifelong appreciation for the healing power of nature. She graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and minor in Spanish language and literature from Georgetown University. After a ten-year teaching career living in Madrid, Spain, she found naturopathic medicine while navigating her own health struggles, then set out on a path to heal others.

What Giselle loves about naturopathic medicine is the approach to understanding and treating the whole person. She looks at all aspects of a person’s concerns - mental, emotional and physical - plus their environment, genetics and lifestyle to figure out how the patient got to where they are today, and where they may be heading. Certain conditions that really fascinate her are acne, anxiety, IBS, hypothyroidism, and PCOS. Rather than focusing on a specific body system, however, she is interested in how hormonal and nutrient imbalances, mental/emotional factors, toxicities, and inflammation can set the stage for all kinds of symptom patterns. She enjoys the investigative process of connecting the dots and finding the pathways that are not working well in that individual, then using that information to create a personalized, dynamic treatment plan. A lot of patients approach their health from a place of fear and frustration. She wants to empower her patients to have a better understanding of their bodies and take an active role in their health. Armed with the tools to make informed decisions, they can truly thrive as their best selves.
